According to a new Swedish five year trial, elderly people can reduce by over 50%, the risk of dying from cardiovascular disease by taking Q10 and Selenium. The trial was reported in the respected ‘International Journal of Cardiology’, where the Heart Centre’s at Linkoping University & Karolinska University Hospital tested 443 men and women in the age group 70-88. Half took 200 mg Q10 and 200 mcg Selenium per day, the other half were given identical looking ‘dummy’ pills.
Apart from a marked reduction in the death rate from cardiovascular disease in the group taking Q10 and Selenium, it also strengthened their hearts and showed a lower level of NT-pro BNP. An increase in this substance in the blood is a sign that the heart is working under pressure. Also an echo-cardiograph measurement demonstrated that the heart muscles worked far better with the group taking Q10 and Selenium.
At Copenhagen’s famous Rigshospitalet University Hospital, they found over a long period, that patients brought in with heart problems, who were given Q10, often intravenously, together with a generally well known heart medicine, their hearts pump better, they were less breathless and tired, reported heart specialist Svend Aage Morlensen, who has carried out extensive research into Q10. Tests show that it extends life, lowers blood pressure and blood sugar and prevent arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries).
